The 3 Main Nail Extension Techniques
1. Tips (Capsules): The Classic Extension
Tips are pre-made nail shapes in plastic or resin that are glued onto your natural nail and then covered with gel to strengthen and shape them. It's the most well-known technique, ideal for gaining length quickly.
Who is it for? Tips work perfectly for very short or brittle nails. They give precise control over length and shape.
Longevity: 3 to 4 weeks. A fill-in is recommended before the natural growth becomes too visible at the base.
2. Gel-X: The Ultra-Gentle American Technique
Gel-X is a technique developed by OPI. It uses soft gel nail extensions that adhere directly to the natural nail with UV gel glue — no aggressive filing on the nail surface. The result is lightweight, flexible and very natural-looking.
Who is it for? Ideal for weakened nails or sensitive skin. Gel-X is the gentlest extension technique as it considerably limits thinning of the natural nail.
Longevity: 2 to 3 weeks, with a simpler and less aggressive removal process than classic tips.
3. Forms (Chablons): The Pro Technique for Sculpted Results
Forms are temporary guides placed under the tip of the natural nail, onto which gel is applied to build the extension from the base. No pre-made false nail — the extension is entirely hand-sculpted by our technician.
Who is it for? Forms are the choice for clients who want a fully customised extension: shape, length and curvature are controlled to the millimetre. The result is often the most natural and sophisticated of the three techniques.
Longevity: 4 to 5 weeks — generally the most durable technique.

Maintenance Between Appointments
Regardless of the technique chosen, these habits will extend the life of your extensions:
- Wear gloves for washing up and cleaning — water and chemicals are the number one enemy of extensions.
- Moisturise your cuticles daily with nourishing oil.
- Book a fill-in before the extension starts lifting at the base.
- Don't use your nails as tools (opening boxes, scratching…).
Removal: Always by a Professional
This is the most important point. Never attempt to remove your extensions yourself by peeling or forcing them off. This action tears layers of keratin and can leave your natural nails thin, ridged and brittle for several weeks.
