Three secrets for a 3-week hold in OPI semi-permanent: (1) Russian prep (cuticles cleaned, nail bed degreased), (2) thin layers under LED — base, 2 colour coats, top coat —, (3) edge sealing at every coat. Pricing: €45 classic, €70 SPA Luxe.
Semi-permanent hold doesn't come from the polish. It comes from the technique. With the right method, OPI comfortably runs 2 to 3 weeks. Without it, you're back at the salon in 8 days. Here are the three moves that make the difference.

Secret 1 — Pro prep: cuticles and degreased bed
Everything is decided before the first coat. A poorly cleaned cuticle equals guaranteed lifting.
At You Rêve Paris, we use the Russian manicure for this stage:
- Dry push-back of dead skin around the nail.
- E-file cleanup of the cuticle area — millimetre precision.
- Degreasing the nail bed with a dedicated product to remove natural oils and cream residue.
Result: the base bonds directly to keratin, no oily interface. This is the first reason a client jumps from 8 days to 3 weeks.
💡 Tip: If you use hand cream before an appointment, pick a non-greasy formula — or skip it the morning of.

Secret 2 — Thin layers and clean curing
The second classic trap: applying semi-permanent in coats that are too thick. The gel cures only at the surface, stays soft underneath, and cracks within the week.
Our standard protocol:
- Base coat ultra-thin, LED-cured 30-60 sec.
- 1st colour coat thin, cured per pigment.
- 2nd colour coat equally thin, cured again.
- Top coat thin, final cure.
Four LED passes — each one complete. The gel is polymerised through, not just at the surface.
Secret 3 — Edge sealing (the free edge)
The step most often skipped, yet the most important for hold. Edge sealing means applying base and every coat right onto the free edge of the nail — not just the top.
In practice: the technician runs the brush along the nail's tip, creating a complete capsule. Water, soap, knocks no longer attack the edge. Tip-lifting disappears.

How to extend hold at home?
- Latex gloves for dishes and cleaning — hot water + soap degrades gel quickly.
- Cuticle oil once a day to nourish the edge. It doesn't penetrate the gel but cares for the surrounding skin.
- Regular hand cream (but not greasy before an appointment, see Secret 1).
- No coarse file on a snag — fine grit only.
