White Day (March 14) is the Asian counterpart to Valentine's Day. On the nails: pure white or milky white in a simple application. Three OPIs to try: Alpine Snow (pure white), Funny Bunny (creamy white), Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees (nuanced white). On short nails, clean girl effect. €45 for classic manicure + OPI semi-permanent.
For a significant share of our Asian clientele, March 14 is a culturally important date. White Day — a Japanese tradition extended to Korea, Taiwan and China — is celebrated one month after Valentine's Day. The day's emblematic colour, as the name suggests, is white.

What is White Day?
White Day was born in Japan in 1978. The principle is Valentine's Day in reverse: on February 14, Japanese women traditionally give chocolate — to a desired man ("honmei choco") or simply out of politeness ("giri choco"). One month later, on March 14, men return the gesture, offering white gifts: white chocolate, white flowers, silver jewellery, sometimes white lingerie.
The tradition has extended to South Korea, Taiwan and China, where it is widely commercialised. In Paris, in the Louvre-Tuileries district where our Asian clientele is numerous, March 14 is a date that registers.
Why white returns to the nails in 2026
White had disappeared from "modern" manicures for several years — too associated with the outdated French. In 2026, it returns with a new grammar:
- Short nails: short square or soft almond shape, more contemporary.
- Milky white rather than pure white — less clinical, warmer.
- Matte finish possible — even more modern.
- Clean girl effect — tended skin, tended nails, natural light.

Three OPI whites to try
1. Alpine Snow
The OPI pure white. Absolute reference. Perfect opacity in two coats. The white of classic Frenches, but also the full white for those wanting maximum contrast.
2. Funny Bunny
A slightly creamy milky white. Softer than Alpine Snow, more modern. Our top pick for a current clean girl effect.
3. Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees
A white with nuanced undertones, almost slightly bluish in cool light. Very elegant "snow white" effect, perfect on fair skin tones.

How to wear white elegantly
On short nails
The most contemporary version. Short square or very short almond shape. White looks minimalist and fresh, with no dated connotation.
On medium to long nails
Prefer Funny Bunny (creamy) for a softer result. Alpine Snow on length can feel slightly theatrical if the silhouette isn't calm.
With a single detail
For March 14 specifically, some clients enjoy a small silver or gold accent on the ring finger — fine line or single dot. Very discreet, very White Day.
💡 Tip: For a "Japanese nail art" feel, ask Xin for a reverse white French or a thin white liner at the base of a nude nail. Heavily worn in Tokyo in 2026.

Caring for a white manicure
A classic worry: "will white stain quickly?". In OPI semi-permanent with top coat, no. The resin is smooth, non-porous, it doesn't absorb daily pigments (coffee, wine, food stains). Normal hold of 2 to 3 weeks.
One single precaution: hair dyes can lightly mark the free edge of the nail if you have your hair done the same day. Postpone the dye 24 hours if possible.
