Each month we look honestly at what really went on nails at 7 rue d'Argenteuil — not what magazines predict, but what our Paris clients actually chose. Here is the Valentine's 2026 red recap from Dodo & Xin, our signature nail masters.
1. OPI Big Apple Red — undisputed #1
No surprise, but the data is clear: OPI Big Apple Red crushed the competition. It is a classic, bright, glossy, slightly cool-toned red — the red you picture when someone says "red lipstick red". It flatters every skin tone, never edges into orange, and photographs perfectly in Paris restaurant light.
Applied as classic manicure + OPI semi-permanent, it keeps its shine 2-3 weeks without shifting. That's why it returns every Valentine's, every Christmas, every formal winter night.
2. OPI Got the Blues for Red — the breakout
The real February riser. Got the Blues for Red is a blue-undertoned red, deeper and visually more matte than Big Apple. It reads velvety, sophisticated, almost wine-like — favoured by clients who want a red that's less obvious, more "Marais dinner" than "postcard".
It works especially well on fair to medium skin and pairs naturally with black or burgundy outfits, where Big Apple Red instead calls for contrast.
3. OPI Cajun Shrimp — February's sunbeam
Cajun Shrimp is a vibrant coral red, almost watermelon. It won over clients looking for a less obvious Valentine's red — more solar, joyful, slightly retro. Very popular on warm and bronzed skin, often back from a short sunny escape.
It also transitions well into March-April: it glides into coral-spring vibes naturally without looking dated.
The nail art that exploded: gold heart on nude
No one asked for it in January. In February we painted it daily. Nude (rosy or beige) semi-permanent base, and one small freehand gold heart on a single nail — usually the ring finger. A signature touch from Xin, whose fine-line work is precise enough to make it look effortless.
Why did it land? Because it's quiet at the office, romantic in the evening. And because the gold-on-nude contrast suits every skin tone without ever feeling overdone.
What didn't take off
Honest debrief: millennial pinks and electric fuchsias underperformed our expectations. Clients wanted real red, not a stand-in. A handful of French manicures with red tips (+€10 design option), but it stayed niche compared with full red.

What about after Valentine's?
Red doesn't stop on 15 February. It carries well into mid-March before the palette lightens toward spring pastels. Many clients ask us to let the Valentine's set ride a solid two weeks — exactly the lifespan of a well-applied OPI semi-permanent.
