Red semi-permanent holds for weeks thanks to dense pigment. To remove it, never peel — the top keratin layer comes off too. Professional removal at You Rêve Paris takes 15 minutes and costs €10: e-file to break the gloss, warm acetone under foil wrap, cleanup, cuticle oil. Can be combined with a new application in one visit.
The red made it through the 14th — exactly what a well-applied OPI semi-permanent should do. But red pigment has one trait: it's highly opaque, which means a heavier pigment load that "prints" slightly on the nail surface. When change time comes, the instinct — lifting a corner, tugging gently — is precisely what to avoid.

Why red holds so well
Red semi-permanent pigments are mechanically more opaque than pastels or nudes. That opacity comes from a higher pigment load — the polish is denser. The result: 2 to 3 weeks of flawless wear, but also a removal that requires the right method.
The absolute rule: never peel
Here is what happens when you tug at a semi-permanent that is still bonded:
- The top keratin layer comes off with the polish. Physically: the gel resin bonds more strongly than the cohesion between keratin sheets.
- The nail looks split, fragile, sensitive to temperature.
- Growth seems slowed for 4 to 6 weeks, until the weakened layer is filed off.
A well-cared-for nail can take months to recover from a peel. Not worth the five minutes saved.

The pro method in 5 steps
Removal at You Rêve Paris follows a precise protocol. Allow 15 minutes for hands, 20 minutes for feet.
1. Filing off the glossy top (1-2 min)
With an e-file and fine bit, we remove the top coat layer. That layer normally blocks acetone from soaking in. Skip this step and you wait 30 minutes for nothing.
2. Foil wrap (10 min)
A cotton pad soaked in warm acetone goes on each nail, then is wrapped in an aluminium square. The trapped warmth speeds up the dissolution of the gel resin.
3. Residue removal (2 min)
We unwrap, then gently push the softened semi-permanent away with a cuticle pusher. If an area resists, we re-wrap for 3 more minutes — we never pull.
4. Surface cleanup (1 min)
A final pass with a fine buffer evens out the nail surface.
5. Cuticle oil finish
One drop of nourishing oil on each cuticle closes the routine. The nail is smooth, ready for what comes next — rest, classic polish, or a new semi-permanent application.

And after removal?
Three logical paths depending on the moment:
- Chain a new application: removal (€10) plus manicure + OPI semi-permanent (€45) — €55 to leave with a fresh shade.
- Switch to classic polish: hands-only classic polish application at €15, easier to change frequently.
- Let it rest: relevant if you notice fragility. Daily cuticle oil for 2-3 weeks is enough to recover.
💡 Good reflex: don't attempt home removal with a rough file and harsh solvent. The cost gap with pro removal (€10) doesn't justify the risk to your keratin.

How long can semi-permanent stay on?
On healthy nails, an OPI semi-permanent can stay 3 weeks easily. Beyond that, the regrowth gap at the cuticle becomes visible — your cue that it's time to come in, for removal or for a new application.
