OPI semi-permanent is built of three layers cured under LED that bond to the dorsal keratin layer of the nail. Peeling tears these natural layers off and weakens the plate for 4 to 6 weeks. The professional 10 € removal, in three steps (e-file, acetone wraps, cleaning), preserves the nail. Book at You Rêve Paris, 7 rue d'Argenteuil, Tuileries metro.
You wore glitter, burgundy or chrome for three solid weeks. Today a corner lifts and the free hand drifts dangerously close. Before you reach in, read this. Understanding the chemistry rewires the reflex — and saves your nails for 2026.

How a semi-permanent really bonds
OPI semi-permanent polish is not a thicker regular polish. It is a photopolymerising system of acrylic oligomers and monomers. Placed under an LED lamp, the molecules react and form a three-dimensional network that solidifies within seconds.
It is applied in three successive layers, each cured:
- The base coat: it anchors into the surface keratin via chemical micro-anchors.
- One or two colour layers: they bond to the base by polymerisation, forming a homogeneous film.
- The top coat: it seals everything and resists daily friction.

Why peeling is so damaging
When you pull, the polymerised film does not break cleanly at the base. It separates taking part of the dorsal keratin with it — the first layers of dead cells that form the surface of the nail.
The visual effect is immediate: whitish patches, irregular surface, the feeling of a very thin plate. On the next application, the polish has less material to anchor into — it lasts less, which makes you peel again. The cycle is vicious.
💡 Did you know? A nail takes 4 to 6 months to fully regenerate. A brutal removal in January leaves visible traces until May.
The professional removal protocol at You Rêve Paris
Our method takes 15 minutes for hands or 20 minutes for feet. It respects the natural nail plate.
Step 1 — Surface filing (3 min)
The e-file, fitted with an adapted bit, mechanically removes the glossy top coat and the thickest colour layer. Dry, controlled, no pressure on the nail. The thinner base coat is left in place to protect the plate during the next step.
Step 2 — Acetone wraps (10 min)
Each nail is wrapped in a cotton pad soaked in pure acetone then foiled. The acetone diffuses for 10 minutes and dissolves the remaining base. You relax, hands at rest.
Step 3 — Cleaning and care (2 to 5 min)
Once the foils are off, your technician lifts residues with a ceramic cuticle pusher. The plate is wiped, hydrated with a nourishing oil. The nail contour gets a final massage. Removal complete — natural nail clean, smooth, ready.
Why 10 € is an excellent price
This rate includes: sterilised e-file, single-use bit, professional acetone (not the chemist's nail polish remover), foils, nourishing oil, and above all your technician's 15 minutes. Cheaper than a desperate-purchase repair treatment after a brutal peel.

What if I want to let my nails breathe?
An excellent idea for January. After removal, ask for a Classic Manicure without colour at 30 €: filing, cuticle care, nourishing oil. Your nails take a colour break, but stay cared for. One to two weeks is enough before going back to polish.

When to come in January
The first week of January is the busiest of winter. Book the morning of 2 January for slot choice. Tuesday and Wednesday remain quieter than Saturday.
