1. The principle: a rate that follows demand
Most beauty salons use fixed pricing: a manicure costs the same regardless of time and day. Simple to explain, but economically inefficient.
Why? Because demand isn't the same everywhere:
- Tuesday 10am: regular clients are at the office: slots are often quieter.
- Saturday 4pm: everyone wants the same slot: spots go fast.
One price hurts everyone: the salon (margins crushed off-peak), flexible clients (no reward for flexibility), and busy clients (no trade-off available). Soft pricing solves all three at once.
2. How it works concretely
Our current time grid:
- Mon-Fri 10am-12pm: morning flexible slot → flexible weekday rate on selected
- Mon-Fri 12pm-2pm: standard rate (lunch)
- Mon-Fri 2pm-5:30pm: afternoon flexible slot → flexible weekday rate on selected
- Mon-Fri 5:30pm-8pm: standard rate (after-work)
- Sat-Sun: standard rate (peak hours)
A weekday bank holiday follows the working-day grid, flexible slots included. The price displays automatically on the booking calendar. You see exactly what you'll pay before confirming.
3. Which services are eligible
Most standard services. On the booking screen, flexible slots are shown in green, with the legend "Off-peak rate". Indicative list:
- Classic manicure
- OPI semi-permanent manicure
- Classic pedicure
- SPA Luxe Pedicure
- Classic waxing legs / underarms / brows (by zone)
A few services have no flexible rate (You Rêve Package, waxing packages, relaxing massages, tip extensions, removals…); the booking screen shows the exact price before you confirm.
4. Why not a classic "promo"
A classic promo has two problems:
- It's punctual (Black Friday, sales). Clients wait and concentrate bookings on those moments — violent imbalance.
- It devalues the trade. If a manicure can "crash" its price during a promo, regular clients feel they pay too much most of the year.
Soft pricing avoids both: the flexible rate is permanent, predictable, and conditioned on a behaviour (off-peak booking) that helps the salon. A balanced exchange: you offer flexibility, we offer a flexible rate.
5. Who really benefits from soft pricing
Three profiles get the most:
- Self-employed, freelancer, remote worker: able to block an hour mid-morning or afternoon. The most-favoured profile.
- Tourist or expat in Paris: flexible schedules, can fit a manicure between two Louvre rooms or two walks in the Tuileries.
- Active retiree of the district: wide daytime availability, strong loyalty.
For 9-6 office workers, the 6pm-8pm evening slot remains workable at full rate, as does Saturday, when spots go fast. That's OK: you pay the most strategic slot. The flexible client next to you pays less in compensation. Everyone wins.
