A major event is nearly always the same equation: a recognisable colour code, a long day often spent outdoors, and photos — stands, terrace, march or concert. The principle: match your nails to the event

Two requirements come up every time. First, hold: an event unfolds across a whole day, sometimes from 11am to midnight, with no chance of a touch-up. OPI semi-permanent (3-4 week hold, a UV-stable formula that neither yellows nor fades in the sun) is therefore not a luxury but a prerequisite. Second, legibility: a colour or motif that "speaks" of the event without tipping into fancy dress. 1. Sporting events: the colours of the field of play on your nails

Roland-Garros & tennis: clay-court red, white, lawn green

Halloween, Saturday 31 October: dark and chic

On the nails, Halloween is about depth of colour, never a costume: no pumpkins or cobwebs, but a dark, chic manicure that still works at the office on Monday. The most dressed-up night of the year is planned ahead: a gel polish applied between 10 and 23 December lasts until 1 January, and the last slots before the 31st go fast. One common thread simplifies the whole plan, whatever the occasion:

• Semi-permanent (hands or feet): book D-3. The colour reaches its peak hold 24h after curing under the lamp, and you cover the entire event.
• Express classic varnish: D-1 or the same morning, in 20 to 30 minutes — ideal for a last-minute refresh or toenails in open sandals.
• Detailed nail art: allow 75 to 90 minutes of application; book 5 to 7 days ahead as a big date approaches.
