1. Technical definition
Both products belong to the builder gels family: UV/LED curable gels, thicker and more resistant than classic semi-permanent, designed to strengthen or lengthen the natural nail.
The difference:
- BIAB (Builder In A Bottle, brand The Gel Bottle, IBX, Dadi'Oil, etc.) — packaged in a polish-style bottle with built-in brush. Medium viscosity. Gel flows on its own toward the nail edges (self-levelling).
- Classic Builder Gel (CND Brisa, OPI Powder Perfection, Bio Sculpture) — packaged in a pot. Thicker viscosity. Application requires a dedicated brush and shaping technique.
One isn't "better" than the other. The right choice depends on the state of your natural nail, your goal (overlay or extension), and your maintenance frequency.
2. BIAB — viscosity, application, target
Viscosity and application
BIAB applies directly with the bottle's brush, like polish. Gravity makes the gel flow towards the edges (cuticle and tip) self-levelling. 60-second LED cure.
Advantages
- Fast application: 15 to 20 minutes for 10 nails
- Thin and flexible layer: respectful of natural nail
- Ideal for fragile or thin nails
- Progressive strengthening: each rebase every 3-4 weeks builds up the nail over cycles
- Easy removal: remover or gentle filing
Limits
- No 3D shaping possible
- Limited extension (max +2-3 mm on natural nail)
- Less durable than Builder Gel for intense manual use (gardening, construction)
For whom?
Fragile, thin, splitting nails. Anyone wanting a discreet overlay that passes for an enhanced natural nail. Active women who want quick maintenance every 3-4 weeks.

3. Classic Builder Gel — viscosity, application, target
Viscosity and application
Builder Gel in pot, applied with a separate brush. Thick viscosity, gel stays where placed. The nail artist totally controls shaping: central apex, descent to sides, tip sculpting.
Advantages
- 3D shaping possible: apex (highest point), curve, sculpture
- Long extensions: up to +5-7 mm on form
- Very strong: extended hold even under manual use
- Artistic signature work: nail artists like Dodo use it for centerpieces
Limits
- Longer application (25-35 min)
- Less flexible — can crack a fragile nail
- More technical removal
- Longer learning curve for nail artist
For whom?
Already-strong nails, length sought, extensions, special events. See also our nail extensions guide.

💡 Tip: when in doubt, ask your nail artist to assess your natural nail at the first visit. Five minutes is enough. The right decision is always made after diagnosis — not in advance.
